?What are Keywords

A keyword is a single word or group of words that defines and clarifies the purpose of your content. In the field of search engine optimization, keywords are words, phrases, and phrases that users enter into search engines to find a specific piece of information.

Pay-per-click (PPC) marketing models such as Google Ads use keywords to attract ads that are relevant to users' keywords.

In other words, search words describe the purpose or goal of a specific content on the Internet, and it is one of the factors that search engines use to arrange search results in an appropriate and correct manner that helps users to find the information they want.

For example, let's say you type in the Google search engine: “What is the history of pottery?” The search results page will show you all articles and types of content that have been ranked in Google based on the keyword “history of pottery.”

When you optimize the content on your website for search engines based on the keywords that users are searching for, you increase the chances that your site will rank higher on search results pages.

There are many free and paid tools that you can use to find suitable keywords for your website. However, before we get to talking about it, let us first introduce you to some important steps that you must follow before you start using these tools.

 Define your target audience

Start by conducting a research about your target audience, identifying their questions that you can answer, or the problems and difficulties they face and that you can provide appropriate solutions to.

 Narrow your focus

When you target a wide variety of keywords, it can reduce the effectiveness of your SEO strategies. So make sure to narrow your focus to make your content more relevant to your audience.

It's also helpful to target keywords that aren't highly competitive, which will make it easier for you to rank higher on search results pages.

Always keep track of your website's performance in terms of the keywords you use, and constantly analyze your findings so that you can use them again to improve and develop your site.

Now that you have implemented the previous steps, it is time to start following the most important and best practices in finding and using keywords.

Many have a hard time with SEO because they target highly competitive keywords.

For example, we find some of them want to prepare content about "weight loss" or "insurance" or other famous words that millions of sites on the Internet compete for.

Can you really appear on the first page of search results when you target these words?

The answer is: Yes, absolutely, you can, but it may take years to achieve.

Therefore, the best solution is to resort to long tail keywords.

Long keywords are, as the name indicates, long phrases (4 or more words) used by information seekers on Google and other search engines. It is often less competitive.

This makes it easy to rank them on the first page of search pages.

If you are new to the field of SEO, then it is recommended that you start with long, less difficult keywords.

But how do you find these keywords

Fortunately, this is very easy thanks to Google Suggest or as it is sometimes known as Google Autocomplete.

For example, let's say you want to create a blog about a "healthy diet". This keyword is likely to be challenging and highly competitive. But when you type "healthy diet" into Google, you'll see a list of suggestions with long keywords.

Google Suggestions

You will have a better chance of being ranked by Google if you write content targeting one of these long words.

Researching keywords in e-commerce is just as important as researching them when writing blogs.

But the only difference is that in the case of SEO for e-commerce sites, you will have to find keywords for products, and category pages in a very large number.

Fortunately, you can do this using Amazon Suggestions just as you did in the previous step using Google Suggestions.

All you have to do is visit the Amazon business site, type the name of a specific product or product category in the search box, and see the related terms and words that the site suggests to you.

You can apply the same plan to various popular e-commerce sites like AliExpress, e-bay, etc.

Use Google tools to know the size and cost of the search

Google's Keyword Planner helps you find out a lot of information about the keywords you want to use. It is a great tool as it provides you with information from the most reliable and credible sources...Google itself.

In order to be able to use Keyword Planner, you must first create and set up a Google Ads account, and that is not difficult, even if you do not have any ads, you can simply create the account and use it.

Once you put a specific word in the search field of this tool, you will see the monthly search volume for that word and all similar or related words, as shown in the image below.

Always make sure to add high search volume words to your content strategy, target them on your site, and stay away from words that don't see much search, what's the point of using words that no one cares about?!

Double the keywords you already use that are compatible with SEO

When it comes to searching for keywords to improve SEO, everyone often just focuses on finding new words, and that's absolutely fine.

However, you can also take advantage of the keywords that you have previously used and that have enabled your site to rank on the search results page.

Through the use of Google Search Console tools.

With this tool, you can see which keywords are already doing well in terms of SEO, as well as the type of content that includes that word.

For example, you may find that you have an article that has been ranked by Google because it included a certain keyword such as “healthy diet”, but, when you look at this article, you may discover that it contains only a simple example of healthy food.

Now that you know that Google loves the content you provide about that keyword (otherwise it wouldn't rank and appear on the search results pages), in this case, you can double use it in another article that targets it completely and better.

How do you use keywords in your content

So, now that you know what keywords are, how to find them, and now that you have several suitable keywords in your hands, it's time to start using them correctly on your site.

Select a main keyword

In other words, don't try to make your page or content center around many keywords at once.

For example, if we have an article about: “Create a blog on the Internet”, this sentence is our main keyword.

We may use similar words like: “how to create a blog” or “set up a blog online” etc., but the focus should always be on the main keyword.

Use the main keyword multiple times in the content

You don't have to repeat this word a hundred times in the article or on your webpage, it will backfire. But be sure to mention it a few times, emphasizing that it is in the first paragraph (or at the top of the page).

This way, Google will know that the topic of this web page is about that keyword.

As well as in the URL link, and in the description box (Meta Description), where its presence in the description box helps your page to stand out in search results. And it increases its natural click-through-rate (Organc Click-through-rate).

Add words similar to the main keyword to your page

This is to avoid stuffing your web page with only the main keyword. It is important to add some words that are similar or related to the topic of your page, thus increasing the chance of it being ranked higher in the search results pages.

You can find similar or related words by looking at Google's suggestions at the bottom of the search page.

Use internal links that include the main keyword

When you create a new web page, it does not have any power or what is known as the (Page Authority), and here comes the importance of linking it to other pages from the same or outside your site.

Make sure to add some internal links that lead the visitor to other pages on your site, and the text that includes the link should contain your main keyword.

It's another way to show Google that this web page is about this very topic.

Thus, you have learned about the concept of keywords, their importance and their relationship to search engine optimization. Now you can start preparing appropriate content (visual or written) that includes the right keywords that will lead to your site's ranking by Google, and start actually displaying it within the search results pages.
